Water is one of the most overused and undervalued resources in fashion. Traditional cotton farming can require more than 20,000 litres of water to produce just 1 kg of cotton—enough for a single T-shirt and a pair of jeans. This not only drains rivers and lakes, but also threatens local communities who depend on those water sources.
At Sustainable Better Merch, we work with a cotton supply chain that relies primarily on monsoon rainwater, drastically reducing the need for irrigation. This helps prevent the depletion of natural water sources and protects ecosystems and rural livelihoods.
Our products also undergo low-water dyeing processes in a zero-discharge dyehouse, where water is cleaned and reused in a closed-loop system. The result? Less waste, less pollution, and a truly sustainable product lifecycle.
